The Meeting was initiated at 10:50 by the chairman Mohammed Abdul Aziz.
First the meeting was willing to discuss the negative aspects of the college gender integration:-
1) Obsession/Loss of Concentration:
Adel, agreed with the idea of losing concentration and the obsession the males would have, since all the things they would think about would be the females instead of the lessons. In addition, Mohammed pointed out that since in our culture and traditions, we did not mingle in schools with both genders so it would be hard for us to develop socially with the females.
2) Embarrassment/Nervousness
Mohammed said what if there happens to be some nervous men in the society, as in what if they are shy, to either participate or interact with the women? Adel replied that it is easy to overcome this situation, with time. Nervousness aside, Mohammed said, the males should always have confidence because it is one of the main things that a male should have, if he lacks confidence, he would usually be embarrassed especially when the class has both genders, it would be less embarrassing for males, if the class was just males.
3) Seduction / Sexual Harassment
Since females usually dress in ways that would be appealing to the male gender, they would use this in a lot of forms against males, such as seduction, lust, which can actually be good for the females, not only does it raise her self-esteem, but she can file sexual harassments against males, which can either make them fired from worked or dismissed from college and can never study or work again, but that is not the only concern, as an example, some teachers (males) are usually drawn to these females, and would actually give them higher marks than the males in the class which is an act of sexism and that is also highly to happen.
4) Rape/Pregnancy
Adel drew our attention by saying; we all know we live in a society where we have the good and the bad, by that he means, some males would actually lose control over themselves and might actually rape females. This is really true and is also a serious case, she could even get pregnant. But in our society, that would bring shame towards her and would lower her reputation as a woman and that is a serious issue.
Now the positive aspects:-
1) Good Behavior
Mohammed said, well if the classes were mixed, this would be really good for both genders, since not only would the males behave more like adults and not like children, decrease their bad habits and be punctual.
2) Impressments
Adel stated, since the beginning of time, males generally have a sense of competition to impress females, by stating that, he added when we have a co-education, not only would the percentage of grades rise, but would also build confidence in males, which would impress the females.
3) Competition
Both genders would compete against each other, to see who would get the higher mark or do the job more accurately, not only would that be beneficial to oneself, but also to the whole community, work or study wise.
4) Confidence
Since in today’s world women have rights and seek equality with men. Males usually lack some confidence when talking to the opposite gender, to build that confidence, Mohammed suggested to mix the two genders from pre-school and upwards to high school, university and in work. The reason is when males have confidence to talk with females, not only would that kill the shyness that most men have but would make interaction with the opposite sex easier and much likely to make working a lot easier.
The meeting ended at 11:16.
In conclusion:
1) Having a co-ed education would be beneficial for the future, making work easier and interaction between the two genders easier.
2) We should raise awareness, about rape, pregnancy and sexual harassment.
3) More or less we always had two conflicting ideas (negative and positive) which balanced equally.
